ABSTRACT
Aviation is big business. For the year 2010, the IATA estimated that the world’s airlines collectively posted an operating profit of US$21.7 billion and a net profit of US$15.8 billion on the basis of revenues of US$596 billion. According to the IATA, between them the world’s airlines carried 2.68 billion passengers and 45.8 million tons of freight.
