ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the third component of the Individual, Community (or city), Organizational and National (ICON) enablers for the integral innovation model. It considers individual and community innovation, organizational innovation represents the context and operation field for innovation. The chapter highlights a theoretical background and concludes with a case study on organizational innovation. It attempts to address the inter-connections between the various theories such as: organizational design, organizational learning and organizational change and innovation. The chapter discusses the classical theory of organizational design based on the idea that there is an optimum single solution to problems in organizations. In addition, theories of strategic organizational adaptation focus on the role of organizational learning in organizational change. The chapter also discusses the ecology of organizations can be informed by ecological science in which evolutionary changes follow selection processes and the "survival of the fittest" concept applies in the dynamics of succession and renewal.
