ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the actions taken at regional level in the state of Nuevo Leon for the establishment of new policies designed to the development of a knowledge society, and their effect in the productive and technological capabilities of the regional industry and the innovation ecosystem. The chapter focuses on some of the results and programmes that contribute directly to the establishment of new businesses based on innovation and foster technology transfer in the RIS (Regional System of Innovation ), such as the research park PIIT(Parque de Investigacion e Innovacion Tecnologica), its infrastructure and its contribution to the sustainable development of the north-east Mexican states. The Monterrey International City of Knowledge programme has the vision of converting Monterrey into one of the most competitive cities internationally, capable of attracting and retaining capital and human talent, for the production of high value added goods and services based on knowledge and innovation, and offer the best quality of life to its inhabitants.
