ABSTRACT

There are always challenges in making major change in any organisation – and re-engineering in particular can have major effects on the work that is done and how it is performed in an organisation. An organisation’s readiness for re-engineering normally matches its maturity in process thinking. Typically professional service firms have much less process thinking than other sectors. A Codexx study of innovation in 16 of the top 75 UK law firms in 2006–7, 1 found that very few firms had a focus or structured approach to improving their business processes.
