ABSTRACT

If you have read this far, you will now understand what is needed to enable an effective innovation system in an organisation. But how do you go about putting it in place in your own firm? There is no one correct path, because it very much depends on your business model and culture and the state of innovation existing in your firm today. For example, some firms will need work in many areas; others may need a process and appropriate resources to complement an existing supportive climate and leadership. With the model of the ‘ideal’ innovation system as defined in Chapter 14, a good starting point is to assess the innovation system in place in your firm now – your ‘innovation foundations’ if you like – to determine how solid they are and what improvements are needed.
