ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the development of industrial tourism in the French Pays de la Loire region, one of the most active European regions in the field of 'economic discoveries' as the French prefer to call it. It describes and analyses the industrial tourism activities of individual firms that we have selected in cooperation with Visit Our Companies. The chapter confronts the observations with our frame of analysis that we developed in, drawing conclusions on the conditions under which industrial tourism has been developed. It introduces three organisations that are particularly relevant for the organisational framework for industrial tourism in the Loire Region. Among the participants are INRA and Carre Cointreau (liqueur); both to be introduced. The chapter discusses some examples of industrial tourism products in Pays de la Loire: the Autonomous Port of Nantes-St Nazaire, STX Europe, Airbus, Cointreau, Les Salines de Gurande and INRA Angers-Nantes.
