ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on what can be done to help prepare the learner to overcome the challenges involved in the application of learning back at work. Thus the primary focus here will be the influence of a number of post-intervention activities on learners' personal ability to transfer. What they found was that the self-management trainees achieved a higher level of transfer in negotiation simulations afterwards than did the goal setting trainees. A feature of the final day of a 3-day residential leadership development programme for managers in a large financial services organization is a session entitled 'Preparing for Monday'. Relapse prevention was originally used with addictive behaviours and is based on the model of Marlatt and Gordon. Coaching is usually described in terms of it being a practical, goal-focused form of personal one-to-one learning. A cognitive approach to coaching is most likely to facilitate learning transfer by changing the way a client views a particular difficulty or set of circumstances.
