ABSTRACT
Months ago, when first considering this chapter, I wrote that the active involvement and significant contribution of women to Romanian architecture was a Pyrrhic victory, despite their increasing number in the profession and the conditions offered by “socialist equality and equity.” Recent studies concur in pronouncing the failure of gender equality during communism, a downfall that ultimately meant unprecedented humiliations and additional burdens for all women.
