ABSTRACT

Assuming that the business case for investment has been approved, the Human resources (HR) project team will now be let loose on the HR systems market. The process is highly varied between organizations and may involve a whole range of procurement activity and specialist buying and contract negotiation skills. This approach alters the whole structure of project initiation and feasibility because the task of reviewing the preferred package takes place alongside the preparation of the Project Initiation Document and business case. The intensive focus on software selection at the expense of other areas is often misguided. The key to making that decision goes back to the limiting factors which underpin the accelerated approach. Under the radical approach, analysis of these factors will generally point to a clear winner. This can be reinforced and made even more cost-effective by engaging an independent HR transformation partner. Attending product demonstrations and constructing elaborate evaluation matrices to compare the relative merits of different products.
