ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the different types of management information, who uses them and what are the key demands on the system. The full functional scope will be largely determined by the scope of activities defined within the HR strategy. The functional scope of the HR strategy will eventually form the basis for a more comprehensive document that details the full functional and technical requirements. Effective management information is probably the single most important requirement for the Business Partner when considering their HR information needs. An effective recruitment process will compile data about an applicant at each stage of the process, building to a complete profile as they become a new employee. The day-to-day requirements for information to support ongoing operational processes are known as operational management information. However, HR is not the only function that may use self-service and it is not uncommon to find that finance or customer management systems also drive self-service from the organizational structure.
