ABSTRACT

It is most important to realise that there are multiple regimes of IP protection. Although this book concentrates solely on patents and not on other elements of IP rights such as trademarks, designs, domain names and copyright, these rights remain important and warrant some definition. It is also important to take a holistic view of IP rights, and to realise that the premeditated use of multiple IP regimes can help achieve sustainable differentiation. Intellectual capital is recognised as the most important asset of many of the world’s largest and most powerful companies.
