ABSTRACT
After the distribution of the spoils at Apameia – Kelainai in 188, Rome once more withdrew its forces from the lands east of the Adriatic Sea, though not entirely. It had already controlled the Adriatic and Ionian coasts and cities and islands, from Issa to Kerkyra, for the previous forty years, and these remained part of its dominions. So the city was able, without much effort, to keep itself informed about events in the east and had some forces available in the area at need – the small forces which Flamininus could deploy against Antiochos III in 192 may have come from that area.
