ABSTRACT

Many supporting roles in projects are typically found in a project management office (PMO) sometimes named a programme or portfolio management office. One of the most important functions of a PMO is to provide a human resource pool of project management professionals that can be rapidly deployed to assist or even perform project activities. A typical PMO manager has the knowledge of a senior project manager, but on day-to-day duties acts mostly as a line manager. The project methodologist is usually a project manager with proven knowledge of standards and methodologies applicable in the area of activity. The relationship manager is a value added partner to the project teams who takes over a significant portion of stakeholder management activities. The role of resource manager is usually found in medium and large organisations that use a matrix reporting structure. In recent years, specialised project estimators have become more common in service delivery organisations where most contracts are obtained through bidding.
