ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some important factors in the context of people management. These factors deserve consideration when planning a construction project because they will influence the path to project success. An almost unique phenomenon of construction projects is that the asset being built will have a fixed geographical location, usually at some distance from the project company's headquarters. The chapter presents moral and ethical considerations in their widest sense for construction projects. In this wider context, ethics, stakeholder management, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and welfare are all intertwined. The chapter discusses the theme common to all motivational theories is that they identify those needs related to the physical environment as fundamental human needs. It also focuses on enforcement of health and safety law in the United Kingdom (UK) which is through the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), whose inspectors have significant powers. Although specific to the UK the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) have to be mentioned.
