ABSTRACT

Project communication within and outside the project team is all about changing attitudes and perceptions. Dealing with people is a critical factor in project management. This chapter focuses on project managers who from many countries what communication skills they thought they needed to lead their teams. Good project managers build teams that are balanced, not just in knowledge and expertise, but also in cultural understanding, perceptions, attitudes and probably gender, age and ethnicity as well. Typically there are at least three key audience groupings for projects, which are sponsors, senior executives and end users. Winning the support of sponsors involves putting ourselves in their shoes and seeing our project from their perspectives. It also explains that trust and respect are the cornerstones of personal relationships. In a collaborative environment team members support and encourage each other rather than focusing solely on their own tasks and responsibilities.
