ABSTRACT

Performance appraisals should be part of that development process. Project managers may be responsible for conducting performance appraisals for employees who report directly to them in their team. Performance appraisals have a retrospective element, looking back on what has been achieved by personal effort, usually with the goal of improving performance for the future. The project manager often logs feedback on her/his project team as part of the project closure process in readiness for requests from functional managers when it is time to schedule performance appraisals. Project managers can be somewhat special when their performance is up for review because they often have many objectives to fulfil in their roles within and beyond the organisation. The communication and HR management aspects of a project managers role are deemed by some to be the most important metrics when assessing performance, ranking above areas such as cost, risk and time management.
