ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book argues that there are international movements in welfare and policy that have an impact on the local interpretation of social work, and that any local social work gains from international ideas. It identifies a number of activities that are part of international social work as it is usually conceived. Postmodernism is both part of and in tension with globalizing social processes. The book focuses on a social work that is concerned for international and personal equality and justice. It explores processes in relation mainly to education, policy, practice and management. The book shows how these ideas may be made relevant and mutually transferable across practice, management and education. It argues that social concern, in search of justice and welfare, is an essential adjunct of economic globalization.
