ABSTRACT

The rediscovery of ethics and ethical values as part of an active design of organisations and organisational structures is a continuing process. The management of ethical ideas and cultural values must be designed in business enterprises according to economic ideas and according to the insights of new institutional theory. On the basis of these practical insights, the chapter discusses how ethics is the prerequisite for conducting any business and what advantages may be realised if a clear set of ethics. It discusses by means of six practical examples how ethical values can be discovered and developed in institutions with respect to economic theories. In the cases of ethics-based, values-added management of Boeing (US), HVB Group, SAP, Siemens, mmO2 (UK) and GE (US), the chapter explains the mechanisms of ethics in management to strengthen organisational success. It also explains the systematic aspects of a common understanding of these general social values and their problems.
