ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concept of online meetings, where collaboration and interaction are at their best and the meeting organisers can reduce misunderstandings and formalise acceptance on the decisions and action points during the sessions. The use of instant messaging tools and visual media computer applications, whiteboards and chat-rooms allows a few people to share knowledge in a direct, unplanned manner. The use of audio and web conferencing suites with the same visual media, in scheduled meetings with many attendees. As many companies keep a history of all conversations on instant messaging, there is no reason to write anything during a chat that would not say in a telephone discussion or e-maill. The main advantage of having online meetings in addition to audio conferencing is the use of visual media to increase the richness of knowledge and validate understanding.
