ABSTRACT

Stereotyping can be both negative and positive. Both forms of stereotyping are a form of learning, though they are likely to constrain future learning if limited cues are then drawn upon to interpret situations and thus influence future behaviour. If stereotypes have been established and these stereotypes or schemas are reinforced through previous histories of experience, then individuals from particular groups may get a more difficult time in training from an instructor who holds a particular conceptualisation about the job and learning.
