ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how the epic generation constructed in specific ways orientated towards a mythological overarching narrative of the lost, tragic youth, with a misguided elite staff while at the lower level comes historical specificity. This battle which affected that town/ this community, in these particular ways. The emergence of generational consciousness including social knowledge about War by the generation is an example of the lateral, cohort awareness. This is shown to be stratified by class, famously in the literature with the contrasts between the experiences of the Officer Class and working class youth, and between the experiences of men and women. The twentieth century was to herald a transformation in the use of the concept of generation in both civil society and expert systems. The century with a concept of generation which was located but the imperial of Empire and fierce competition had produced heightened interest in and a proliferation of ideologies of nationhood, nationalism and race.
