ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an analysis of the collective action of women on Mexico’s northern border, particularly in Tijuana. On the one hand, it considers issues linked to the territorial context, investigating the border’s meaning in terms of a feminist action’s direction and dynamics; on the other hand, it takes account of changes over time, with the goal of understanding the organizational process and identifying progress made as well as obstacles faced. It is a case study of Casa de la Mujer Factor X [Factor X Women’s Center], where I will address the following questions: What role has the border played in defining the collective action of women in northern Mexico? What are the challenges that need to be addressed for the collective action of women as learned from the organizational experience of Factor X?
