ABSTRACT

In 2012 there were 477 scientific journal articles published on the topic of mindfulness. In recent times, Professor Andrew Hopkins has said that the key difference between an average organization and an excellent one is mindfulness. An average organization waits for a problem to arise, but in a world-class culture the organization is always mindful that new issues arise every day and proactively seeks them out. Mindful organizations apply this principle carefully, they continuously seek new knowledge to maintain a fully up-to-date understanding of everything they do, but they also avoid getting caught in the trap of system obsession. Marked reluctance to simplify interpretations, being mindful allows organizations to see the big picture in higher definition, ensuring that nuance and subtlety is noticed rather than ignored. The presence of the member who lives mindfully serves as an active reminder to the others in the family to live in mindfulness.
