ABSTRACT

I have described why different forces are operating to create the conditions for a profound renovation of how we coordinate our efforts through organizations. As illustrated in Chapter 4, I believe that technology is acting as a powerful catalyst to promote change, through its ability to reinforce integration among individuals within organizations. All these factors contribute to the challenge of how to design organizations by making the traditional hierarchical form obsolete and counterproductive.
