ABSTRACT

The interplay between institutions and society is a key tenet in social sciences. In fact, while institutions cannot but be products of social systems and individual actors, the latter are influenced by institutions. The circularity of this self-evident process poses several problems as to how institutions emerge, develop, and are eventually superseded by novel ones.
