In writing to the General Administrator of the Réunion des Théâtres Lyriques Nationaux Georges Hirsch, Poulenc’s chief aim was to prepare the Parisian public for the French premiere of his Dialogues des Carmélites on 21 June 1957, nearly six months after its world premiere in Italian at La Scala, Milan.
