ABSTRACT

It was in 1946 or early 1947, during a tour of Portugal with Bernac, that Poulenc met the composer and writer on music Fernando Lopes-Graça (1906–1994), who was conducting a series of interviews with composers who were either French or living in France. He had also been familiar with France between the wars. After studying in Lisbon, he came to Paris in 1937 to study with Charles Koechlin (composition and orchestration) and with the musicologist Paul-Marie Masson.
