ABSTRACT
The emphasis in this chapter and indeed throughout the book is on houses that are designated museums and where an indigenous collection of artefacts including textiles remain in the property. It is in these houses that retained historic textiles play a central role creating the atmosphere, affecting the visual impression and impacting on the interpretation methods that are adopted. They also present curators and conservators with particular problems.
