ABSTRACT
I want to discuss something of the relationships among the anthropology of music, ethnomusicology, and Western musicology, illustrating this discussion with comments on the work of two musical scholars who have conducted research many years apart: Francis Theresa Densmore and Kofi Agawu. Both were trained in music and not in anthropology, and their work takes us from Native America to Africa.
