ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the final stage of Time Bank participation namely outcomes. The respondents of people's Hour Exchange Portland (HEP) survey were asked to identify the extent to which their involvement with the Time Bank has enabled them to accomplish various things. Unlike the many connections between motivations and outcomes at HEP, motivations to join. Member to member (M2M) do not influence the outcomes gained by members. This is interesting since people anticipated that the reasons for joining would shape outcomes. The organizational and community benefits produced by local currency networks have not yet been researched and are an area of need that should be considered by scholars in the future. Since formal education is the major type of 'human' capital, it is also interesting that those members with less education are also more likely to gain work outcomes. The Hour Exchange Portland is producing some work benefits for those who may need it most.
