ABSTRACT

The communication aspect of negotiations involves the exchange of information and offers in ways that convey the intentions of the participants. Communication always involves a sender, a receiver, and a medium through which information is exchanged. In order to get a message across, people generally use their whole body. This is done by using language, paralanguage and body language. Language is a system of symbols that represent objects and ideas of the physical and spiritual worlds. Language comes in two forms: written and spoken. Spoken language is universally transmitted through a sequence of sounds specific to each culture, while the written form is through specific symbols laid out in a certain direction by specific syntax. The different communication modes are usually analyzed in reference to the dimensions of richness and interactivity. This chapter discusses the communication modes like telephone and teleconference, videoconference and email.
