ABSTRACT

Technology systems that are designed to support negotiators in their role are classified as negotiation support systems (NSS). These systems were developed and used during the 1980s in the information and communication technologies (ICT) revolution with moderate success due to the social and political implications of the pre-Internet era. The most successful and best known model of automated negotiations is the online auctions popularized by eBay. eBay managed to effectively bring the person-to-person trading model to the online marketplace, making the model a huge success. Online dispute resolution (ODR) systems have been available for quite some time now, but they have not yet been adopted by businesses to the extent that technology makes them available. Main benefits of ODR for business include time and cost efficiency. Communication speed can bring news fast, but it cannot bring instant comprehension. The main application area of technology for e-diplomacy nowadays is the provision of information spaces and discussion forums.
