ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews important considerations in e-learning implementation, including: establishing the information technology (IT) infrastructure, creating an e-learning support center, and internal marketing. If training has been built on a foundation of sound instructional design (ID) principles, the goal of implementation will be simply to deliver the training to learners. An e-learning support structure must be established before training is delivered to learners. An internal marketing campaign must be launched to foster an organizational culture of acceptance for e-learning. The educate phase teaches employees about the science behind e-learning, the people who were involved in its development, the training objectives being targeted, and how e-learning can help them do their job. The phase of the implementation marketing campaign is engagement. There are two types of engagement: formative and summative. Once the educate and engage phases are complete, e-learning must deployed and fully integrated into the training cycle.
