ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with product technology, the technology associated with the product itself. For example, with a piece of software, technology is the product. Fixing problems and keeping ahead with new releases is another important feature of product technology, although there is a fine line to be drawn in both cases. Due diligence should also look at the decision-making behind new product releases. Due diligence should cover the customers and the personnel issues as well as examining the technical merits of the product. Due diligence becomes a mixture of investigation and technical assessment. Technical due diligence is a mixture of technical appraisal and investigation. Technical appraisal does require the close attention of some highly qualified people with the requisite product experience. Technically the product range was good and up to date, but discussions with research labs around the world revealed that another company was number one by a long way due to first mover advantage.
