ABSTRACT
Network diagrams provide a visual representation that, in simple cases, makes it very easy to discern one archetype from another. In more complex real-world examples the visual complexity makes this task difficult to perform reliably and objectively. In these cases it is possible to turn to a number of formal metrics drawn from graph theory. These enable the connectivity of street patterns to be calculated in a similar way to those which are applied to information networks.
