ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book generates dialogue about doing nutrition differently. It provides a comprehensive starting point for thinking critically about nutrition. The book describes the questions and concerns, the omissions and contradictions for new conversations. It expresses a collective interest in moving beyond what has come to be seen as a narrow and repressive approach to diet and nutrition. The book refers to this narrow approach as 'hegemonic nutrition' and described it with the adjectives: standardized, reductionist, decontextualized and hierarchical. It articulates some of the questions, these are questions that try to move towards a nutrition that exceeds universal metrics, that expands rather than reduces, that pays attention to context, and that refuses to succumb to the hierarchization of knowledge.
