ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the different types of urban strategies under analysis have been impacting on the cities' structural assets and capitals for sustainable competitiveness: knowledge and economic capital, social conditions, environment and quality of life, image and institutional conditions. It focuses on key insights from the case studies grouped across a typology of six key themes or domains: sharing data in the digital city, using events for new urban legacies; regenerating the city; climate proofing and adaptation; promoting new cluster development and enhancing urban security. The chapter analyses the changing organising capacities and enablers in the case studies, and how they relate to early results and pathways of urban change, namely: strategic networks and collaboration, leadership, communication, finance, prioritisation and piloting and agile delivery. It concludes with a number of conceptual and policy reflections, deriving a summary and dilemmas and capabilities to manage cities under a sustainable competitiveness framework.
