ABSTRACT

Organisations must find ways of developing a balance between the needs of security and the needs of users that is acceptable to users. In examining the topics of cyber crime and cyber security, the author focuses repeatedly on a few core topics; dependency on connectivity, the threat of large scale, sophisticated attacks, and the awareness challenge. Fourth Generation mobile technology (4G) has arrived in all its glory and it is the time once again for myriad security consultants and some vendors to leverage change in order to scare their clients and win new business. With the IP approach there is likely to be an increasing 4G cyber security challenge as next generation devices continue to become nothing less than mobile computing platforms, connected to the Internet. Hence the ethical and practical implications of these developments for cyber security practitioners, law enforcement and the legal system, as well as for the rest of society, are mind boggling.
