ABSTRACT
The MAS dimension can be very subtle and confusing, not in the least because a society's MAS orientation has a direct correlation with how their gender roles are defined. Masculinity stands for a society in which social gender roles are clearly distinct. Femininity stands for a society in which social gender roles overlap: both men and women are supposed to be modest, tender, and concerned with the quality of life. The origins of gender role are amongst the oldest and most elusive. Anthropologists and social psychologists have given many valid reasons and speculated widely. Another visible albeit less subtle aspect of the masculine society is the display of status symbols, which is often essential for successful persons to be accepted as such. Paradoxically, within the masculine family, the young boys rather than the girls have a tougher time growing up. Back to our recruitment process, CVs in masculine cultures loudly note and praise their candidate's achievements and capabilities.
