ABSTRACT

Utilize cultural diversity, and involve people with different perspectives to themselves. This chapter discusses the thinking about a problem, and the quality of people analysis will be improved considerably if people can work with people who can think in alternative ways. Drawing a rich picture is an essential part of conceptualizing a problem if managers are following a Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) approach. The basic principle underlying the use of systems thinking to analyse what is happening in the workplace is to consider organizational activity as if it were a system, with the transformation of an input to an output being regulated in some way by a feedback mechanism. In practice, causal flow diagrams are often developed after a multiple cause diagram approach has been used to explore the root causes to a specific problem.
