ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book determines the concept of cosmopolitan business ethics and discusses ethical principles from the perspective of globalization. It describes the conceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) with special emphasis on an institutional conception of good corporate citizenship as cosmopolitan or global citizenship in order to define the legitimacy of corporations in modern society. The book discusses the dimensions of institutionalization of CSR and cosmopolitan business ethics in international business and management. It presents a decision-making model for cosmopolitan business ethics. The book presents the central features of an ethical and values-driven business in globalization. Corporate social responsibility as global responsibility will be discussed in the tension between ethics and economics, which demands methodological considerations about the foundations of the study of values-driven management and social responsibility.
