ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the accounts of the Apache Indians, Basso illustrates how the landscape speaks to the people through names and stories. The vision into the imaginary landscape is then followed by a trip to the north of Iceland with her friend, Maria, where they camp in a field near a small village. The chapter explains the walking has been tinted it with an air of romanticsm, as a bodily motion which gets one directly in touch with the surroundings. It explains the hike was the West Highland Way in Scotland, on the old roman roads and tracks, rolling hills up long valleys, long tranquil days of moorland that ended in a warm inn or farmhouse and a pint of cider. She gets a vision of a landscape as she starts imagining herself following the paths through moorlands and up and down rolling hills.
