ABSTRACT

The average global temperature is cyclical, there are ice ages followed by warming trends. Nature plentifully supplied timber which served as a source of heat for millennia, followed by coal powering the industrial revolution, and by petroleum that serves as the fuel for our primary means of transportation today. Globalization is a term used to describe development of a connected world that is much more open and interdependent. This interdependence is made possible by a combination of technological capabilities and political structure. The same trend is seen among EU firms: 61.9 per cent are in services while 39.1 per cent are in manufacturing. In short, values and wealth are being created in such knowledge-intensive industries as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, ICT, financial services, education, entertainment, and so on. These chapter agues major trends in recent times. There is a clear change in the economic scenery, with needs for new developments in energy, medical systems, and food.
