ABSTRACT

The initial excitement with new technology is directed at its potential, at the way it was supposed to operate. However, new technology can still be approached with a certain amount of apprehension and suspicion, as well as interest. Like other technologies, ICT causes all kinds of reactions, and this needs to be understood in order to explore the experience of pupils. The differences in attitudes to the uses of computers at home and in school are already clear. ICT is, in one sense, another teaching aid. Like overhead projectors, videos and white boards, it can enhance the learning process. It can make lessons far more interesting. The students were accustomed to the tradition of receiving information. The interactivity and the iterative possibilities of the computers themselves were a marked contrast to the traditional forms of lessons. The students were clear that the computers offered two distinct advantages.
