ABSTRACT

Business planning, implementation and review are the processes that underpin the open organisation. To maintain its boundaries, deliver results and to evolve organisations need to: understand the business and market context; get an 'outside-in' perspective on the business, such as the voice of the customer. The chapter examines strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats; develop the operating framework; develop integrated plans; have feedback and review processes; and adapt the plans accordingly. As part of the business planning and strategy implementation process Open Teams need to take account of important internal and external relationships. Organisations can link business planning with organisation development in different ways according to their circumstances. To avoid the downside of silo working and make collaborative working relationships a norm, senior leaders need a visible agenda for relationship management. An external coach can help others to see the bigger picture, including evidence to support the need for collaboration.
