ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on the causes and downside of silo working, and the barriers to quality working relationships, as well as suggesting approaches to improving collaboration. Positive approaches to developing people and organisations focusing exclusively on the positives and the strengths of the individual, team or organisation are very popular today in coaching and organisation development. The popularity of positive approaches are to some extent a reaction to the old deficiency model where people looked at what is wrong and planned improvements. Carl Jung's philosophy on Psychological Type, and that of Eastern philosophies and religions, recognises that there are always opposites in life and human nature. Collaborative relationships, with the right balance of challenge and support, can increase the quality of the working environment as well as improve performance.
