ABSTRACT

The notion of child labour is not easily defined. This is because, it does not only depend on the activity a child engages in, but also on the impact that activity has on the child. Some forms of work that do not have any adverse effects on health and personal development of a child are in fact thought to contribute positively to a child's development. These include household chores, helping with family enterprises and part time work outside school hours and school holidays that allow children to earn pocket money (International Labour Organization (ILO) 2002).
