ABSTRACT

The implementation of ILO child labour standards in Asia has takes various forms with varying degrees of effectiveness: Asia is a region of various cultures, customs and identities. Bonded children are delivered in repayment of a loan or other favours granted, real or imaginary, usually to the parents or the guardians of the child. Having a help in the household of middle- and upper-class families is a historically embedded practice in almost all Asian countries. The sight of children pushing carts, carrying garbage bags or toiling on top of smoking dumps is unfortunately one of the most common sights in Asia. Armed conflicts increase the number of orphans and sometimes involve children directly as combatants. Traffickers of children feed largely on the desire of poor families for economic and personal advancement through migration for work.
