ABSTRACT

Family transitions, such as divorce have a profound impact on the life course for children and the subsequent opportunities available to them. Though impact of family transitions is common across many domains for children, there is also diversity within these experiences. For British-Indian children, as explored, these impacts are mediated by their ethnicity and specific ethnic contexts which present both risks and opportunities. Experiences of divorce and resources available to British-Indian children and families of divorce are dependent on the interactions across the various ecological systems within which their lives are intricately embedded. The interactions between systems are complex and risks and opportunities manifest in children’s lives in dynamic ways.
