ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of understanding and preventing led outdoor accidents data system (UPLOADS), as implemented in the Australian outdoor sector in 2014. It describes the version of UPLOADS that was implemented in the Australian Led outdoor activities (LOA) sector from the 1st June 2014. While the components were developed specifically for the LOA-context, they could be adapted for a different domain by readers wishing to develop their own incident reporting system. The accident analysis method forms the core of UPLOADS, and it influenced the design of all the other components. The classification scheme provides a standardized approach to analyzing the qualitative information captured in incident reports, which enables aggregate data to be represented on the accident analysis framework. The incident data collection fields fitted into three categories: Incident Characteristics, Adverse Outcomes, and Incident Description. The criteria for reporting incidents to UPLOADS was based on incident severity, in line with the World Health Organization guidelines.
